Plan an AWS migration around the business, not a deadline

Move from on-premises infrastructure, VMware or another cloud with a clear view of workload dependencies, cost assumptions, security and the operating model you will need after cutover.

No public calendar is configured. Request a review and SwedQ will contact you to arrange a time.

AWS migration services

Plan a move from on-premises, VMware or another cloud to AWS with SwedQ. Assess workloads, TCO, landing zones, security, migration sequencing and possible AWS MAP eligibility.

Assess the estate before choosing a migration path

A useful assessment captures workload owners, dependencies, lifecycle constraints and operational requirements. It identifies what should move, what may need modernization, and what is better left unchanged. The scope should be proportionate to the estate and the decisions the organization needs to make.

  • Inventory workloads and map important dependencies
  • Record availability, data, latency and compliance constraints
  • Separate known facts from assumptions that need validation

Build a business case and TCO view

A migration business case compares realistic cost and effort scenarios, including the current estate, AWS consumption, network and licensing factors, migration delivery and ongoing operations. Estimates are planning inputs, not a promise that a target bill or payback period will be achieved.

  • Document assumptions behind infrastructure and service costs
  • Include migration effort and the destination operating model
  • Model options and sensitivity to usage or timeline changes

Create a secure landing zone

The landing zone provides a governed foundation for workloads. Its design should fit the organization’s identity, account structure, connectivity, logging, security controls and policy requirements. Establishing the foundation early helps teams migrate consistently without pretending every workload is identical.

  • Plan accounts, identity and access boundaries
  • Set network, logging, backup and security baselines
  • Define governance and workload onboarding responsibilities

Sequence and deliver migration waves

Migration waves should reflect dependency order, business calendars and rollback requirements. Each wave needs an owner, a validated runbook, test criteria and a decision on whether the workload is rehosted, replatformed, refactored, retained or retired. Cutover is followed by stabilization and cost review.

  • Prioritize waves by readiness, risk and business value
  • Agree testing, communications and rollback criteria
  • Review operational handover after each migration

Modernize when the case is clear

Modernization can improve resilience, release speed or operating cost, but it changes scope and risk. We identify options such as managed databases, containers or serverless patterns and compare them to the workload needs. Rehosting may be appropriate when speed or compatibility matters more.

  • Compare migration paths instead of assuming a rewrite
  • Make security, resilience and operability explicit design goals
  • Defer changes that do not support the agreed business case

AWS MAP and potential funding

AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) and other partner programs may be relevant for eligible projects. Program rules, customer and workload eligibility, partner participation and available funding must be assessed and approved by AWS. Funding is not automatic, and SwedQ does not promise a free migration or a specific funding amount.

  • Check current program criteria during discovery
  • Validate eligibility and documentation with AWS before budgeting around support
  • Proceed with a migration plan that remains understandable without assumed funding

FAQ

Questions about aws migration services

Can SwedQ migrate workloads from VMware or another cloud?

Yes. Migration planning can cover on-premises and VMware estates as well as workloads on another cloud, subject to assessment of dependencies, licensing, data and operational constraints.

Does AWS MAP make migration free?

No. MAP eligibility and any funding require assessment and AWS approval. A specific amount or free migration cannot be promised in advance.

What is included in an AWS migration assessment?

Typical outputs include a workload and dependency view, migration options, landing-zone considerations, a sequenced plan, material risks and planning assumptions for cost and effort.

Do we need to modernize every application?

No. Rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, retaining or retiring may be suitable for different workloads. The choice depends on business goals and constraints.
